Mark A. Wright

Mark A. Wright serves as an Emergency Management Specialist within the HQDA Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff, G-34, Army Protection Directorate (DAMO-AP). He also serves as the Army Program Manager for CP-12, 0089 Emergency Management Specialist. He is responsible for overseeing Army Protection and Emergency Management policy revisions, reviews, and publications for the Army.

Mr. Wright was born in Athens Georgia, and received, a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanization Technology from the University of Georgia, and a Master of Business Administration in Information Management from Grantham University.

He also served nearly 30 years as an Army Engineer Officer in the Active Army, Army National Guard, and Army Reserve until he retired in July 2013 at the rank of Colonel.

Prior to his current assignment, Mr. Wright’s Emergency Management experience included service as a Military Support Coordinator for Headquarters Department of the Army. While there he had daily exposure to Defense Support of Civil Authority (DSCA) related issues and often directly coordinated with the Office of the Secretary of Defense, the Joint Staff, NORTHCOM, USARNORTH, HQDA Staff Elements and Service Staffs Headquarters in the execution of Homeland Security, civil support and emergency preparedness operational requirements. He has worked on many emergency response operations for the Army including numerous hurricane support missions, wildland wild fire support, two Presidential Inaugurations, and many other missions in support of FEMA and NORTHCOM.

Mr. Wright’s military service included service as the Chief of the Army National Guard Crisis Response Center. During that time he assisted with coordination and planning for Hurricane Katrina/Wilma/Rita operations, which included the alert and deployment of over 50,000 Soldiers within 6 days from all 54 states and territories. He also served as a key member of the Army National Guard Operational Planning Group, working on topics such as hurricane operations, United Nations Summits, pandemic influenza planning, President Ford’s State Funeral, and other National Special Security Events.

Mr. Wright and his wife Patricia have one daughter and reside in Fredericksburg, VA.
