Recovery/Towing

Removing or towing equipment or vehicles from a specific area is an inherently dangerous task. During these type of operations, the understanding of recovery and towing procedures along with the application of Risk Management, from the start of the planning process all the way through the execution phase, is critical to mission success.

Personnel conducting recovery operations must wear leather gloves when handling wire rope. Small frays in wire strands can cause severe lacerations to hands. Caution must be taken to never slide the wire rope through hands, even when wearing leather gloves. The hand-over-hand method must be used when inspecting or handling wire ropes, and when inspecting the rigging, hands or body should never be placed between cables under tension.
