About Preliminary Loss Reports (PLRs)

PLRs are intended to be used as an engagement tool for leaders to discuss the hazards and trends impacting Soldier safety and readiness. A PLR contains only basic information, as the investigation is ongoing, but provides sufficient background to allow leaders an opportunity to communicate risk at the Soldier level.

PLR 19-043 - PMV-4 Mishap Claims One Soldier's Life

A 31-year-old Specialist assigned to 82nd Airborne Division died in a PMV-4 mishap 25 March 2019 in Fort Bragg, North Carolina, at 1730 local. The Soldier was the driver of a vehicle that collided with an oncoming vehicle. He was reportedly not wearing a seat belt.

ENGAGEMENT TIPS:

  • Leaders, when was the last time you had a one-on-one discussion with your Soldiers about the importance of using seat belts?

  • What is your organization doing to enforce standards before a mishap happens?
