About Preliminary Loss Reports (PLRs)

PLRs are intended to be used as an engagement tool for leaders to discuss the hazards and trends impacting Soldier safety and readiness. A PLR contains only basic information, as the investigation is ongoing, but provides sufficient background to allow leaders an opportunity to communicate risk at the Soldier level.

PLR 19-049 - PMV-4 Mishap Claims One Soldier's Life

A 32-year-old Specialist assigned to 3rd Infantry Division died in a PMV-4 mishap 29 April 2019 on Georgia Service Route 144 at 0615 local. The Soldier was inside his vehicle on the road shoulder, awaiting assistance for a flat tire, when he was struck from behind by an approaching motorist. ENGAGEMENT TIPS:

  • If you get a flat tire while operating your vehicle or experience some other vehicle malfunction, when possible, continue to operate the vehicle at a safe speed until you are able to safely pull off the road and away from traffic hazards.

  • If you are unable to completely pull off the road, exit the vehicle and move away from traffic hazards.
