Dehydration, lack of acclimatization, blazing temperatures, high humidity and heavy workloads can rapidly lead to heat illnesses. Heat cramps or heat exhaustion, if undetected or left untreated, can rapidly lead to heat stroke, which can be fatal.
The profession of arms is inherently dangerous. Every Soldier knows that when they take the oath to support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic, they could lose their life.
The Profession of Arms can be difficult. At times, it involves missions in the extreme heat while wearing body armor and carrying weapons, ammunition and other gear.
If there is one thing I have learned from this incident, it is accidents like this one can be prevented by leaders who take the time to properly train Soldiers on how to safely operate Army vehicles.
As much as we don’t like to think that our mothers and other sage advisers were right, the older we get, the more we realize how correct they were.
