Caught in the Sun

Rush hour was a chaotic mess. Instead of a steady flow, vehicles were clumping in groups and coming to a stop in unpredictable patterns. Eventually, the cause became apparent. Up ahead, dump trucks and other heavy machinery, as well as groups of road construction crews, were working on the highway.

A Nearly Perfect Storm

It was my fault as much as it was his. I work with safety professionals and hear the statistics every day. Yet there I was in my own little world, rushing to get home and not paying attention to the other drivers on the road. That’s how I ended up forced into the median at 60 mph.

Across the Army, Soldiers have many different hobbies to occupy their off-duty time. One of the main hobbies I often hear about is Soldiers working on their private motor vehicles. While doing the work themselves may help save money on a costly repair or modification, it can be dangerous if they don’t have the proper tools to do the job safely.

A Road Warrior vs. Winter's Wrath

As snowflakes began hitting the road, I tightened my grip on the steering wheel of my speed-racing Honda Civic. I could picture my front-wheel-drive hatchback doing 360s down the highway. But I had an important briefing at work and, as the leader, calling out wasn’t an option. I’d have to fight the worsening conditions on Interstate 78.
