I woke up and looked outside at the beautiful morning in Watertown, New York. I was excited because this meant I would be able to ride my motorcycle to work. The riding season in upstate New York is short, so you have to take advantage of the nice days.

Why Training Matters

I have always been an advocate for motorcycle mentorship programs. The lessons I’ve learned from fellow riders and the reinforcement of positive riding habits have been useful on more than one occasion. The event I share in this article is a perfect example.

Dress for the Slide, Not the Ride

A few years ago, I received a phone call from my youngest brother. He was going to preach at the church where my grandparents have been members of most of their adult lives. The service would take place in Greeneville, Tennessee, about 500 miles from my home in Enterprise, Alabama. I decided not only to attend, but to ride my motorcycle there.

Blowouts and the Bike

This is a typical "there-I-was" story, much like the ones I enjoy reading about in safety magazines. The only difference is I am the subject, and the following events (yes, that’s multiple events) happened to me. The lessons I learned motivated me to change the way I think about my favorite hobby — motorcycle riding.

Hawaiian Crunch

I was riding my Suzuki Hayabusa to get the fluids running through it. Since it was a show bike, I didn’t ride it much. Out of my motorcycle collection, the Hayabusa was my favorite because of all the custom work I had put into it. Sadly, I wouldn’t be riding it back home.

Motorcycle Pre-Ride Inspections

Motorcycle safety should always be taken seriously. Riders are at a greater risk than other motorists while out on the road. Taking just a few minutes to conduct a pre-ride inspection can decrease the chances of mechanical failures and will ensure the proper performance of your motorcycle.
