A Dangerous Trend

I’ve noticed a dangerous trend in the Army — units taking shortcuts when issuing tactical driver’s licenses. It seems some of us have gotten away from the standards and regulations put in place to ensure proper training. Driver training across the military has been an ongoing battle, whether it was a transporter or a military intelligence master driver teaching a course. We need to treat this position as a role, not an additional duty.

PCCs / PCIs Save Soldiers' Lives

We’d been in country six months and had three more to go. Direct-fire actions had been limited, and the biggest threat we faced was indirect fire and accidents. Up to that point, our ANP mentoring could be described as two steps forward, one step back; but all in all, we were making progress.

Plan for the Heat

With spring already here and summer fast approaching, leaders and Soldiers should be considering hot weather hazards. Heat illnesses, including heat exhaustion and heat stroke, degrade mission effectiveness and can happen during any month, but most occur between June and July.

Training Our Drivers to Standard

I was an 18-year-old private when I arrived at my first duty station at Camp Casey, South Korea. Shortly after reporting, my leadership sent me to the 40-hour driver training course managed by the installation. Several days after completing the first phase of the course, I learned my unit was about to depart on a training exercise. I also discovered we had a severe shortage of licensed operators.
