A Deafening Silence

This tragic — but preventable — accident was a very difficult lesson to learn. I did several things right that night. I didn’t get behind the wheel after drinking and I wore my seat belt when we made that fateful trip to the store for food and drinks. But I also failed. I didn’t ensure everyone else in the truck was buckled up. Unfortunately, it cost two people, including my best friend, their lives.

Just a Cast Away

If you’re like me, you cherish every opportunity to take a break from your busy work schedule to toss a line into the water, regardless the time of year. These occasions are especially important to me now as my career is beginning to sunset and fly fishing provides me with quiet, peaceful moments.

Backroad Blunder

I grew up in Hawaii. You know what that’s like — warm, sunny weather just about every day. Our summer temperatures typically run in the mid- to high 80s, with winter cold snaps plunging the mercury into the mid- to low 80s. My only previous winter driving had been at Fort Rucker in the polar regions of south Alabama.
