As a kid, I was into sports and played basketball in the park during summers in the Bronx. Back then, my coaches always warned me to stay hydrated. That’s advice I should’ve incorporated into riding my motorcycle.

I was raised in the country, where the lack of immediate entertainment left most of us kids looking for hobbies. Mine was motorcycles. I started riding at the young age of 5, and by the time I was 8, I’d worked myself up to the Honda XR75.

Blinded by the Light

As a motorcycle rider with more than 26 years of experience, I consider myself fairly seasoned. Seasoned, however, doesn’t always equal smart. As human beings, we are still susceptible to simple mistakes, overconfidence and errors in judgment.

A Lack of Intervention

I wasn’t there the night the accident happened. I wish I had been. I might have been able to talk some sense into him. However, a chain of bad decisions and lack of intervention would take him from his parents and sibling, his friends, the Army and this world forever.

Riding in the Benelux

Focus on Fundamentals

When I decided to purchase my scooter, I knew from the onset that I wanted to pursue proper training. If there is one thing I’ve learned during my short time in the Army, it’s that training is the best way to learn the correct (and oftentimes the safest) way to do something.
