Maintaining Vigilance

When you are downrange in an unmanned aircraft system (UAS) platoon, everything gets repetitive. You launch your aircraft, fly your mission and land several times every day. The platoon is usually isolated from the rest of your unit and everyone knows the rules of the flight line. It’s when visitors arrive that problems sometimes arise.

Watch Out for the Other Guy

Road trips can be dangerous, so I always take the steps I think are necessary to be prepared. I plan ahead, check my route on the map and make sure my vehicle is serviced and ready to go. However, I could never have anticipated what happened to my family one Sunday in the Florida Panhandle.
