It was a normal summer day and I was halfway through my shift when the State Patrol Communications Center (SPCC) sent notice of a head-on collision involving injuries on a heavily traveled highway in northeastern Washington.

As I floated there completely in shock, a fellow crewmember leapt into the water to help get me to the boat ramp. An ambulance arrived shortly afterward and transported me to a local hospital.

Spring is here, and with it comes swimming pool activities. Many of us have and enjoy pools at home, of both the in-ground and above-ground varieties. As such, it’s the perfect time of year to consider home swimming pool safety measures, especially for those who have children around.
