I have always taken safety seriously. However, after 18 years of sitting through the same safety classes over and over again, they tend to become mundane.
In the Army, we train and train until we can do our tasks in our sleep. Then, when faced with a situation, we handle it without thinking. Safety, training and awareness are key components in preventing accidents. Stay alert, stay alive!
I don’t want to sound all doom and gloom, but c’mon, man! At some point, at some level, something’s got to give so we can reduce these mishaps.
If you are ever executing similar missions, or encounter unexpected circumstances on a range or mission, take the time to plan and mitigate risk. A little patience and forethought will go a long way.
