Luckily, we did not end up with any lasting injuries and had a great time. However, I did learn a couple of very important lessons. First, don’t let being cool make you a fool! In other words, don’t accept unnecessary risk just because you don’t want to look uncool.

In September of 2017, I learned a tough lesson about how overconfidence can lead to complacency and, ultimately, injury.

It was the day before the start of deer season in upstate New York, and we were walking the farm to check the safety of our tree stands and search for recently used trails and buck rubbings.
